Philip Dizack

b. 1985

Philip Dizack (trumpeter) was born in Milwaukee on June 7, 1985. He began playing trumpet as a child and attended the Milwaukee High School of the Arts. After high school, he moved to New York City to study at the Manhattan School of Music, where he earned a bachelor’s degree and was active on the city’s jazz scene. Early recognition included awards at the National Trumpet Competition and the Carmine Caruso International Jazz Trumpet Competition.


Philip has performed with various artists across the jazz and contemporary music spectrum, including Terence Blanchard, Ravi Coltrane, Robert Glasper, and Miguel Zenón. His work as a sideman and leader has included collaborations with musicians such as pianist Shai Maestro and bassist Joe Sanders. He has released albums as a leader, including Beyond a Dream (2005) and Single Soul (2012), featuring his original compositions and showcasing his approach to modern jazz trumpet playing.


In addition to his performing career, Philip holds a faculty position at the University of North Texas, where he teaches jazz trumpet. He continues to record, tour, and appear at international jazz festivals.
