Swing Club / Brother's Lounge / Jazz Oasis

2379 North Holton Street

The building at 2379 North Holton Street was a longtime jazz venue, beginning in 1948 as the Swing Club. Around 1967, it became the Brother’s Lounge and was later known as the Jazz Oasis during the 1980s and ’90s. Lee Foster, who had managed the Brother’s Lounge, became the owner of the Jazz Oasis and often played drums there. An earlier location of the Swing Club operated at 1682 North Van Buren Street, where it began in the late 1930s before moving to Holton Street. Today, the Holton Street building is home to McKenna Real Estate. Murals on the east and west exterior walls pay homage to the building’s jazz history.
