About the Event
LISTENING TO JAZZ—THE MUSIC OF BILLY STRAYHORN
ONLINE WORKSHOP WITH PAUL SILBERGLEIT
Known as Duke Ellington’s alter ego, Billy Strayhorn is one of the all-time great composers of jazz, and the man behind such Ellington Orchestra staples as “Take the ‘A’ Train,” “Chelsea Bridge,” and “Lotus Blossom.” His passionate melodicism and rich use of harmony are epitomized by his signature composition “Lush Life,” a singular classic of twentieth-century American music. And in later years, he and the Duke famously collaborated on large-scale works including Such Sweet Thunder and the soundtrack to Anatomy of a Murder. Join MJI’s Paul Silbergleit to explore the lush and swingin’ songbook of this jazz giant!
Cost: $15
