SEVEN SIDES OF A STANDARD—SUMMERTIME
ONLINE WORKSHOP WITH PAUL SILBERGLEIT
“Summertime,” from the George Gershwin opera Porgy and Bess, is one of the most recognizable and frequently performed songs in American music. Its plaintive melody and mystical minor-key chord progression have lent themselves well to vastly different interpretations by jazz musicians of all stripes, from Ella Fitzgerald to Miles Davis. With MJI’s Paul Silbergleit as your guide, check out how each of these artists have approached the tune with their own unique style, and from the perspective of their musical era.
Cost: $15
