About the Event
Come be inspired by Byron Stripling—trumpet virtuoso, singer, actor, and Principal Pops Conductor of the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra—as he works with students from the MJI Youth Program in a special master class. Observe, listen, and learn from one of today’s most exciting and accomplished jazz musicians.
Stripling earned his reputation as a jazz musician as the lead trumpeter and soloist with the legendary Count Basie Orchestra, performing under the direction of Thad Jones and Frank Foster. He has also performed and recorded extensively with some of the greatest names in jazz, including Dizzy Gillespie, Clark Terry, Dave Brubeck, Woody Herman, Lionel Hampton, Louis Bellson, and Buck Clayton, as well as the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, Carnegie Hall Jazz Band, and GRP All-Star Big Band.
