Milwaukee Jazz Institute advances jazz through education, performance and opportunities for musicians of all ages across southeastern Wisconsin. In this centennial year of Miles Davis’s birth, MJI presents a quintet featuring two trumpets in a tribute to one of the most influential figures in jazz history.
Leading the group is three-time Grammy Award-winning trumpeter, composer, and bandleader Brian Lynch, who has performed with Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers, the Horace Silver Quintet, Eddie Palmieri and Phil Woods. Lynch, who serves on the board of directors of MJI, is joined by Chicago trumpeter Dakarai Barclay, an MJI faculty artist whose performance credits include Winard Harper, Jarrard Harris and Ernest Dawkins in Chicago, New York and beyond.
The rhythm section features pianist and MJI artistic director Mark Davis, and bassist and MJI faculty artist Jeff Hamann.…
